Dehydrated oranges make the most beautiful holiday decorations. Not only are they beautiful in color and texture, but their aroma smells of cinnamon and sweet citrus. I was looking for a festive craft project, so I decided to give this a try!
In this post, I’ll share how to make dried orange slices and ideas on how to use them this holiday season.
How To Make Dehydrated Oranges
Making dehydrated oranges is simple! What you will need:
Oven
1-3 Oranges
Step 1:
Preheat your oven to 250(F) degrees.
Step 2:
Slice your orange into thin slices. The thicker the slices the longer they will need in the oven.
Step 3:
Place the orange slices on a wire rack (best if over a sheet pan) and bake for 2-3 hours.
How to Use Dehydrated Oranges
- Use twine and a large needle to string the orange slices together as garland for your Christmas tree.
- Place the orange slices on top of your holiday pie or cake as a decorative garnish. I personally love the look of dried orange slices on a chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
- Dip the oranges in resin to make earrings out of orange slices.
- Combine the oranges with cinnamon sticks and place in a decorative bowl as holiday potpourri.
- Use them as a garnish for a Thanksgiving cocktail (like an Apple Cider Old Fashioned)
- Make them into Christmas tree ornaments
- Add them to a wreath that will easily transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas
How Long Will Dehydrated Orange Slices Last?
Dried orange slices should last at least 2 years if stored in an airtight jar or container. Make sure the oranges are baked completely through to minimize any moisture that can cause molding.
Pour yourself a warm cup of tea and enjoy the smell oranges baking in the oven!
Happy creating!
