Are you are a creative mind but feel lonely in your ambition? Maybe you seek a community that speaks your language.
OR
Maybe you haven’t the time to dabble, take risks and stretch your imagination. Well, you are not alone. I’ve been in all those states of mind and can tell you that reading is one of the best things you can do for your creative soul!
In this post I’ve listed 5 books that are sure to stretch your creative thinking skills.
Resources for Creative Thinking:
Book #1: The Artist’s Way
If you are following my instagram, you have probably heard me talk of Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. I would be remiss not to include it in my top 5 books for creativity thinking. Her book is good…like the top of a muffin good. What I love about the book is that she includes quotes in the margins of every page about creativity, art and self-care.
The Artist’s Way is somewhat of a misleading title in that it’s not a book just for artists. Rather, it’s a book about finding your true potential. In my opinion, creativity is a muscle within all of us and its needed into order to navigate this thing called life. Or, shall I say, to navigate it well.
Julia gives you concrete tasks, habits and daily rituals to start your path to higher creativity. For daily motivation, follow Julia Cameron on Instagram.
Book #2: Live Before You Die
Live Before You Die was written by a social work friend of mine, Mark Hood. He has such a pleasant and humorous way of putting the reader in their place. In his book, he challenges the typical self-help book and dives straight to the root of our self-imposed misery. Mark will teach you how to open your mind, change your perspective and act on your true self.
I’m almost finished with the book right now and feel like starting it all over again!

Book #3: Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
Big Magic was written by the same author as Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert. In Big Magic, Elizabeth helps us confront our biggest fears and chase down barriers to living a more creative life. She speaks of daily habits and attitudes that can help you further develop creative thinking skills.
If you loved Eat, Pray, Love you will love Big Magic as well!
Book #4: Flow
Flow. What a great place to be in. Have you ever experienced a true state of flow? If you’re wanting to learn more about the psychological state of flow and how it originates the book Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is for you. Flow talks about the psychology of optimal experience and was a national best seller.
Book #5: The Handmade Charlotte Playbook
The Handmade Charlotte Playbook by Rachel Faucett is full of crafts, games and recipes for you to try throughout the year! This book is great if you are looking for fun craft projects to do with your kids. The Playbook helps make ordinary life fun! The instructions are simples and most of the materials are objects you already have lying around your house.
