Hat or no hat?! Accessories are how we express ourselves in fashion and even the absence of accessories can tell us something about our personal style. I like to think of accessorizing as the equivalent of adding finishing marks to a painting or placing a green plant in a minimal kitchen. It’s the last touch…the dot to your “I.”
A must-have fall accessory is the black-brimmed hat. Shy about wearing hats? Don’t be! Wearing hats has been a fashion tool for women since the early 19th century. Pick accessories that bring you joy and give you that extra pep in your step. Black-brimmed hats go with almost everything. Yes, even tops made out of flowers ;-P!
Black-brimmed hats make me think of walking in a field of flowers during early fall when the air is still warm and the leaves are starting to turn. This was my inspiration behind the flower top. I used vibrant green/yellow Hydrangeas, Aster, and Craspedia to construct the bodice. Isn’t it refreshing to look at an ordinary object (like a blouse) in a different manner? What if this look was transformed into a wearable corset? Would you wear it?
Fall accessories may help battle seasonal depression? What!?
Interestingly, finding aspects that we enjoy in seasons (like a new fall hat) can help encourage appreciation for the present rather than miserably biding your time until the sunshine appears. I used to hate rainy days, until I changed my thought process. Now, I think of rainy days as permission to stay in, read, drink tea and throw on my coziest sweater. What is a fall fashion accessory you look forward to wearing?
Let’s look at a list of places where you can find black-brimmed hats this fall:
- World Market (where mine is from, I prefer this one because it has a boxier top)
- Asos
- Shopbob
- Urban Outfitters
Fall Hair Accessories:
Where Art Meets Fashion
Last on the fall fashion accessory list is Scarf Headbands. These are from World Market and are a great way to bring some cheer into your fall wardrobe. They look like little paintings!
I love the look of a black turtleneck with a colorful headscarf.
