Winter is here, which means it’s CRAFT SEASON! In this post, I’ll teach you how to make giant flowers out of tissue paper. I’m a sucker for immediate gratification, so you won’t find any complex instructions here. I’ll show you how I made these tissue paper flowers in just 4 simple steps.
River Island Holiday Looks
But first, outfit deets! In the photo above I’m wearing my favorite River Island blazer for the holidays. You could pair it with a mini-dress or keep it casual.
Do you have a hard time finding jeans that fit right? Well, I’ve got a secret that might help. I like to buy my jeans a size up and have them custom-fitted by a tailor. I did this with my Cello jeans (featured above) which I found at Ivy & Leo in the South Park area of Charlotte. They have been my go-to jeans ever since.
Secondly, this River Island Neck Tie Midi Dress is perfect for those of you who love to wear dresses with boots. I paired this beauty with my black leather boots. I love the juxtaposition of feminine florals with edgy leather. Every woman has a fierce side…Am I right?
How to Use Tissue Paper Flowers as Decorations
Tissue paper flowers are great for birthday party decorations AND depending on the color of the tissue paper you choose, they can fit any holiday. Below are some ideas on how to use giant tissue paper flowers for your holiday decor:
- Make red and green flowers, attach pipe cleaner stems, and place them in a clear vase as a Christmas centerpiece
- Arrange red, green, and gold flowers around your door or entryway
- Add silver or red tissue paper flowers to your tree or garland
- Use brown parchment paper as tissue paper to make a Thanksgiving arrangement for your kitchen table
- Use tissue paper flowers to decorate your hat for the Kentucky Derby
- Use this 4 Step Tissue Paper Flower Project as a children’s art activity
All the Supplies You Will Need to Make Tissue Paper Flowers
You only need a few supplies to make tissue paper flowers. In fact, I’m betting that you already have two of them in your desk drawer!
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Tissue Paper (I found a huge pack of large, sparkle tissue paper at Tuesday Morning for a great discount)
How to Make Giant Tissue Paper Flowers
Step 1
- Your first step is to choose 3-5 sheets of tissue paper. I like to alternate the colors to differentiate the layers of petals. However, there are no hard and fast rules here. Note: Your top layer of tissue paper will be the center of your flower.
- Layer your paper on top of one another
Step 2
- Staple the center of the tissue paper together. Note: I like to take the center and pinch it with my fingers, then staple all sheets together.
Step 3
- Take your scissors and cut the tissue paper into a circle shape. Note: Don’t worry about trying to achieve a perfect circle shape, flowers are organic!
Step 4
- Congrats! You have reached the last step. Pull each layer of tissue paper up, one by one. As you press the layers together you will see the petals emerge.
- Use this same process to make any size of flower. Simply cut a smaller circle shape to start.
- I didn’t add pipe cleaner stems to mine since I wanted to create the artful fashion look below. However, to add the pipe cleaner stem simply staple it to the bottom of your flower OR use the pipe cleaner and wrap around the base of the flower.
